Description

The Crosby 1021110 G-2140 bolt type alloy anchor shackle for heavy lifting and use in long-term or permanent installations and rigging systems, or in situations where loads may slide, is made of forged alloy steel galvanized for added strength and corrosion resistance and has a working load limit of 30 metric tons. It is equipped with a programmable radio-frequency identification (RFID) chip for electronic inspection systems. Working load limit and two 45-degree angle indicators are forged into the shackle. Angle indicators are used to check a two-legged hitch, or a single leg hitch when the bolt is secured and the load is off vertical (side loaded), to determine whether a working load needs to be reduced. This shackle is 1-1/2″ in size, weighs 18.8 lb./8.52 kg, and has a 30 metric ton working load limit with a maximum proof load of two times the working load limit. It is approved for use from -40 to 400 degrees F /-40 to 204 degrees C. The G-2140 shackle meets or exceeds American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME B30.26) requirements, and can meet Det Norske Veritas (DNV) impact requirements of 31 ft-lb./42 joules at -4 degrees F /-20 degrees C.

Shackles are used to connect two items together such as chains, ropes, or wires. A shackle is made up of a U-shaped piece of metal called a bow, and a bolt or pin to secure the ends of the bow together. The bolt or pin is removed to connect or disconnect the chains, ropes, or wires. Shackles are commonly used in boating, shipping, construction, entertainment, and manufacturing applications to create rigging systems that tie down, tow, lift, or suspend. They come in a variety of sizes and strengths to handle loads weighing from a few pounds to hundreds of tons. They are often galvanized or tempered for durability and corrosion resistance, which is especially important for shackles used for long periods under adverse conditions such as salt water, sea air, or extreme temperatures. Shackles come with either pins or bolts to handle widely varying load and lift requirements. Round pins and screw pins are used for static loads in temporary rigging systems. Bolts are used when a load will slide around, or for long-term and permanent rigging systems in structures such as cranes, offshore oil platforms, catwalks, and theaters or production studios.

The Crosby Group manufactures tools and supplies for the lifting and material handling industry. The company, founded in 1836 as Crosby-Laughlin and headquartered in Tulsa, OK, meets International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard 9001.
